Meeting Pierre Poilievre

Last week, the founders of Futurist Club met the conservative candidate for the next Prime Minister of Canada, Pierre Poilievre at a private event. Witek showed him a picture of our building with the iconic mural "Giving Wings to the Dream". Pierre immediately recognized it as he grew up in Calgary. He said "that's the one on 7th Ave". We mentioned we wanted to restore it with the original artist and he was in support of this. I mentioned that I went to his rally in Vancouver a few years back and he asked me what year it was and where it was. I blanked and he said it was 2022 at the Croatian Cultural Centre and he was spot on. We were surprised at how sharp he was, he has attended numerous rallies so I didn't expect him to immediately know which rally I had attended. The founders of Futurist Club are not very political but the Liberals had been in power for 9 years and according to polls the Conservatives stand a good chance of winning next year. For cryonics and radical life-extension to work we need political acceptance and change.

We told Pierre about wanting to make the Futurist Club an innovation hub with robotics, virtual production, conferences on far future topics. We avoided cryonics as we had only a short time to talk to him there and there was a huge line of people. We figured it was probably too controversial for him to approach this topic at the moment but we at least we had gotten his campaign staff's contact information so we could reach out again and perhaps start forming these ties.

Later on we met the organizers of the event in their office in downtown Toronto and they said Pierre remembered us and he mentioned that "cool couple from Calgary" and "their futurist club project". So we did make a positive impression on Pierre.
